A Difficult Birth: The History of the Formation of the Association General music director Christian Simonis, head conductor of the “Göttinger Symphony Orchestraâ€, proposed to set up a museum that would show and appreciate life and work of the supposedly most famous musician and composer from Lower Saxony at his place of birth. One had rapidly come to an agreement with the previous organizer of Quantz concerts, the Protestant-Lutheran parish Scheden-Dankelshausen, to set up the museum in the St.-Markus church. A few years ago, one had thought about using the anteroom of the gallery this way before. Furthermore, the museum was supposed to be led by an association which has a greater independence in various ways. The founding assembly of the association took place on June 10th 2002. The following people were attending: The founding assembly passed a statute, elected the board of direction (1st president Horst Metje, 2nd president Marianne Beuermann, secretary Ingrid Rüngeling, assessors the other four), and laid down the membership fee. The association started its activity on December 23rd 2002. The enrolment in the register of associations hadn’t taken place so far, therefore the statutory election of the board of direction couldn’t have been held to that time. Nevertheless, the association dealt with the planning of the museum and, after all, with the securing of the necessary funding. Mr. Simonis in particular, achieved a lot. Based on his various connections, he was able to win many sponsors and oblige Andrea Rechenberg (Göttingen) of the “Museumsverband Südniedersachsen†as a competent consultant for the conception and arrangement of the museum. Dr. Meike Kuhlmann, nee ten Brink (Hamburg) took over the scientific research. Due to formal reasons, the founding assembly had to be repeated on November 20th 2002. Once again, the association was notified to the register of associations. Since the Inferior Court Hann. Münden had complaint about the statute in one point, there had to be made a corresponding change which was attested by a notary on the first official general meeting on March 3rd 2003. At this assembly Heidrun Stichtenoth was elected treasurer and Helga Flöter and Theodor Beuermann examiners of the cash office. Other board meetings took place on April 7th, May 26th, and September 8th. On June 10th the Inferior Court agreed to the statute and the association was enrolled in the register of associations. On the part of the finance office the association got its acknowledgment of public utility on July 11th. From 7 to 21: The Development of the Membership In connection to the Quantz-concert on March 16th 2003, which was recorded by the “Norddeutscher Rundfunk†and shown on television on May 30th, the association campaigned for more members. In addition to the seven founding members, there are eleven other persons and three concerns belonging to the association. The association would be happy to be able to welcome more members and native concerns as enduring supporters. Concerning this matter, the advertisement in summer 2003 didn’t have a lot success. But your day may come... Possibly, these first actions in realizing the museum can motivate you to join the association. Financing secured: About 60.000,- € for the Quantz-Museum It took a long time but finally it was worth all the effort since there were some throwbacks at the beginning. One was able to create a secure financial base for the planned Quantz-Museum. |
